Lane Departure Warning

Frontal Collision Warning

Automatic City Collision Mitigation and Braking

Active Protection System

Does the 8 Series Come With Active Guard?

Active Guard is a BMW-exclusive safety suite that comes standard with the BMW 8 Series. It's designed to inspire confidence with features like:

  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Frontal Collision Warning
  • Automatic City Collision Mitigation and Braking

The standard Automatic City Collision Mitigation will come in handy when cruising around the city streets at low speeds. If the system detects an imminent collision with another vehicle or pedestrian, it can automatically apply the brakes if you don't react in time.

Lane Departure Warning can be paired with the available Active Blind Spot Detection to provide even more confidence. You'll receive an alert if you begin to drift from your lane, and you'll also be warned if a vehicle is driving alongside you. This pairing is especially useful during long commutes or a lengthy road trip.

What Is the Active Protection System?

The Active Protection System is another standard safety system of the 2021 BMW 8 Series. It will automatically detect imminent collisions. When it does, it then prepares the vehicle by automatically tightening the seat belts and closing the windows to provide protection. It also activates post-crash braking to help prevent a secondary collision.

Fatigue and Focus Alert is part of the Active Protection System. It works as an attentive copilot. It monitors several parameters to detect drowsy or distracted driving. When it does, it provides a warning so you know it may be time to take a break.

If a collision occurs, the 8 Series also has an impact sensor that activates the Battery Safety Terminal, which disconnects the battery from the alternator, fuel pump, and the starter. It also automatically unlocks the doors and turns on the hazard and interior lights so it will be easier for you to get to safety.

BMW 8 Series Parking Safety

When you're in a crowded parking lot, peace of mind is paramount. The 8 Series comes standard with a Rear-view Camera that will give you a better idea of what lies behind your vehicle when driving in reverse. You can also upgrade to a Surround View camera, which makes it even easier to shimmy into even the tightest spot.

The available Active Park Distance Control will give you even more confidence. It uses ultrasonic sensors to alert you when you get too close to potential obstacles in the front or rear of the vehicle.

Did you know the BMW 8 Series can even park itself? It's true! When armed with Parking Assistant Plus, it will look for a suitable space when you drive at low speeds. Once you confirm, it will take over the steering and get you into and out of the spot.
