BMW recently had one of their vehicles named a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Which BMW vehicle was named, you ask? It is the 2016 BMW X1. BMW holds the safety of our consumers very high, so this is truly an honor. Want to know more about this vehicle and the award it has won? Keep reading for more information.

This is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s highest rating. To earn this rating the vehicle must receive a top rating of "good" in all five crash worthiness tests that include moderate overlap front, small overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. It must also have a front crash prevention system in place that has earned an advanced or superior rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Standard safety features on the 2016 BMW X1 include stability and traction control, antilock disc brakes with automatic brake drying, BMW Assist eCall, BMW TeleServices, Cornering Brake Control, active front-seat head restraints, hill descent control and a plethora of airbags including front side, full-length side, and front knee. It has a newly available front crash prevention system that includes a forward collision warning component that meets National Highways Traffic Safety Administration criteria. Drivers have the ability to take their safety one step further with optional safety features like Lane Departure Warning, Frontal Collision Warning including Pedestrian Warning and City Collision Mitigation.
