The 2016 BMW X5 is available in five trim levels: the 35i, 35d, 50i, X5 M, and 40e. Standard features on the base trim include 19-inch wheels, driver memory settings, xenon headlights, a panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, "SensaTec" premium vinyl upholstery, heated 10-way power front seats as well as front and rear parking sensors. BMW Assist and Remote Services are also standard. These programs include features like automatic crash notification and emergency assistance.

One of the highest praises for the 2016 BMW X5 is the array of engines drivers can choose from. These include:

  • a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque
  • a diesel-powered 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque
  • a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that kicks out 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque
  • a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine that pumps out 657 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque
  • and finally a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with electric motor drive components that combined produces 308 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.
